1 bg layer = source & kaleidoscope

the source cut out,
multiplied till I had a "windmill" and flattened to one layer

this in the middle of the kaleidoscope-background

and both layers to 80%,
canvas-bg color from brightest part of bg
and blending-mode layers to "subtract"
